C.D. Leganés coach Igor Oca appeared at a press conference on Friday after the match between the Pepineros and Granada C.F. at the Ontime Butarque Stadium, corresponding to the 25th matchday of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended in a 1-0 victory.
The Blue and White coach summarized what happened on the pitch as follows:
Melero and Diego start and score: "It was very important to win today because of how close we are to our rivals, to win again at home and to gain consistency. The names are technical decisions, we knew we could hurt them and Melero could help us in many ways. Millán and Diego have been starting in many games, they are both working very well and we choose based on how we want to play. For example, in the case of Naim, there are teammates who, either because of the market or because they are raising their level, are increasing the competitiveness, and that's what we want“.
Importance of the victory: ”We like to keep a clean sheet again, to be a team that concedes little. The game was very controlled defensively, and a narrow lead always creates tension. We've been scoring goals, we've been creating chances, but we've lacked effectiveness in the final third. We want to be brave and close out these types of games earlier. We came to play a team that loses very few games, we suffered but we're happy to get the win".
Third consecutive home win: “We see it from the pain of last week. We did a lot of things well, and in terms of competitiveness, there were moments when they were better than us. Today we had an opportunity to compete at the level that this competition demands, and I'm excited to see how we managed that finish, because it's something we've been needing to do and we want to continue doing it”.
Dani Rodríguez: “He's only been with us for a short time, but from day one he's been an example in terms of personal care, professionalism, and commitment to training. He gives us a lot. He's always involved in offensive situations. On his first day, he had a chance to score. He's always been a player who has been able to execute and has helped us from day one. Today, with that assist to Melero, he was very good”.
Reliability at home: “From day one, I've felt how the fans have supported us. They've been very consistent in expressing themselves freely, knowing what was at stake. They're a really important factor and they've cheered us on as always until the end. Being able to work together makes it easier for us to win. We need it and we're very grateful”.
Competitiveness in the squad: "Sometimes you have to prove it with actions. In today's soccer, you can't just play with eleven players; you need the temperament to know that you can make a difference playing twenty, thirty, or forty minutes. Players are different, and depending on many factors, one or the other will play. If we're far from where we want to be, it's because not many players can perform at a very high level for many minutes, so there are alternatives for others to come in and increase the team's competitiveness".
Objectives: “We are in a tremendously competitive league. I want to be brave and enthusiastic about what lies ahead; that's how I feel every day. I'm excited, but we're not going to look at the medium term. We have many things to reinforce and several to improve. That's what interests me, to continue with more peace of mind than other times during the season. When we improve and establish a more consistent performance, we can think about other things”.
