C.D. Leganés earned a commendable draw away to leaders Racing (1-1) in a match in which they could even have taken all three points. Andrés put the Cantabrians ahead, and Cissé equalized for Lega in the closing stages.
Igor Oca made five changes to the Leganés line-up from the last match against Córdoba: the main change was the first start for academy player Marcos Leiva, who made his debut last week, at right-back in place of Rubén Peña and Figueredo, who were out with injuries. Lalo returned to central defense after missing the last few games due to injury, while Naim returned to the starting lineup, as did Diawara and Duk after serving their respective suspensions.
The first chance of the game fell to Lega in the first minute, with Diego looking to get into the opposition's area. In the 14th minute, Juan Cruz had a good chance after a pass behind Cissé, but the number 10's left-footed shot missed the target. With Duk attacking from the right and Cruz linking up, Leganés managed to neutralize Racing's pressure in the early stages, having more possession and looking for the opposition's goal.
Cissé had the best chance for a very good Leganés side in the first half with a shot that hit the post
In the 26th minute, Lega had another clear chance through Cissé, who struck a first-time shot from outside the area that crashed against the Racing goalpost. Duk claimed a penalty in the 28th minute after Pablo Ramón elbowed the Cape Verdean in the face inside the area, but neither the referee nor VAR considered the action to be punishable. In the 33rd minute, Igor Oca made his first forced substitution, bringing on Roberto López in place of Naim, who was forced off with an injury.
Racing's best chance came in the 38th minute, when Canales shot high from the left. And in added time, Juan Soriano had to intervene to deflect a long-range shot from Canales himself for a corner. With the score tied at 0-0 and Igor Oca's side looking good against the leaders, the teams went into the break.
Andrés put Racing ahead after an assist from Vicente
With no changes after the restart, Roberto López had Leganés' best chances in the first five minutes of the second half. Lega deserved the goal, but Racing had their chance in the 51st minute with a shot from Puerta that Juan Soriano deflected well. Duk also tried his luck in the 61st minute, moving to the left wing in the second half. However, in the 62nd minute, Racing took the lead through Andrés, who beat Juan Soriano after an assist from Vicente to make it 1-0.
Leganés tried to respond with a double substitution, bringing on Melero and Alex Millan in place of Leiva and Diego Garcia. Lalo moved to right back, while Diawara dropped back into central defense. Juan Soriano saved a 2-0 lead after a Racing counterattack following a Lega corner, with the Pepinero goalkeeper deflecting Suleiman's one-on-one shot.
Cissé equalized in the final stretch for Lega, who were rewarded for their good performance
Lega's good performance was rewarded in the 82nd minute: after a move in the Cantabrian area, goalkeeper Andreev saved a first shot and the ball, after hitting the crossbar, fell to Seydouba Cissé who, with his head, hammered it into the back of the net to make it 1-1 with his first goal of the season. Lega was not satisfied and brought on Óscar Plano and Miguel in search of a comeback that almost came in added time when Álex Millán failed to convert a one-on-one chance that went just wide of the post.
It was a well-deserved draw for Leganés, who put in a great performance away to the league leaders and picked up points for the second consecutive matchday to move up to 20 points in the standings. Their next match will be next Saturday (6:30 p.m.) at Ontime Butarque against Real Sporting.
