José Arnaiz: "We players are the first to be upset, but I'm going battle to the end whatever the result"

C.D. Leganés' José Arnaiz switched the pitch for the studio this Monday as he appeared on 'Hora Blanquiazul' (Mondays 20:00-21:00 on Antena CEMU Radio, 89.2 FM), to discuss the club after their Real Valladolid match and ahead of a football-packed week of games against A.D. Alcorcón and C.D. Tenerife.

The number '10' was clear regarding the team's situation: "It's not what we wanted. No one wants to be in the relegation zone ten weeks in, and we didn't wind up there by accident, rather, it's our own doing. You play nervously and it damages you. There's nothing to do apart from turn it around as soon as we can, starting from Wednesday. We need to think ablut winning and getting out from under, because it will do everyone some good and force a change in our mentalities".

Arnaiz pointed out the players are the first to become unhappy in these situations: "It's normal that people are upset, the same way we're upset because we don't want to lose a single match. I heard whistles when I got substituted and in the end it's normal, that's how sport is. It's angering, because after everything and running more than your opponents, things still don't turn out right, not at the back and neither going forward. But what's worse is when your wife calls you and tells you a fan has insulted her, because it's me who plays, and if they have anything to say or whistle at me, it should only be to me".

On his personal performance, José was critical: "I started the year well, and after getting Covid maybe I'm a little worse. Right now I would give myself a 2. I'm not doing well, but I'm feeling strong. I need to find that best version of myself because so far he's not what I've been giving. I'm going to battle till the end: whatever the result, I'll give everything. The Segunda División is very complicated and we need to turn things around as soon as we can, but I'm confident we'll do it. I've never experienced a promotion to the Primera División and that would be my dream. There is more than enough in this team to fight for the play-offs and challenge for promotion", he concluded.

The Talaveran forward believes the results have come from "a mix of everything, both management and players. We're not defending well, and we're attacking even worse. On paper we have a great team, one of the top three in the league. We're training hard, but without the results to show for it. The objective continues being the same as such: get to a play-off spot and fight for promotion. We will come together and get it straight with one another".

Lastly, Arnaiz revealed one of the best moments in recent months on a personal level has been his son José starting the season in blanquiazul too, now playing in one of the club's school teams: "My son has started at Lega this year and it's one of the best things to happen this year, I don't miss a single training of his. Last weekend he played his first game and it upset me not to be able to be there to watch due to training. It's one of the best things to happen to me recently".
