28th anniversary of C.D. Leganés' first promotion to the Second Division

On June 27, 1993, C.D. Leganés was promoted to professional soccer for the first time. The pepineros beat Elche C.F. (3-0) at the Municipal Luis Rodríguez de Miguel in the last match of the promotion and achieved a historic promotion to the Second Division, the first in their, at that time, 65 years of history.

Luis Ángel Duque's Leganés had finished the league as champions of their Second Division 'B' group, and then faced the promotion group, in which they had to play six matches against Xerez, Palencia and Elche. On the last matchday, the pepineros received the franjiverdes knowing that a victory would give them the longed-for promotion.

Antonio, with a brace, and Peces certified the first promotion to professional soccer.

In a Municipal full to the flag, Leganés formed with: Aguilera; David, Mesas, Dorado, Barba; Chuso, May, Vivar Dorado, Peces; Miguel Ángel and Antonio. Fernando and Barcia came in from the bench.

The goals were not to come until the second half. Antonio gave Leganés the lead in 51' and repeated in 85', before Peces scored in 87' to make it 3-0. The delirium was total in a packed Municipal, and Leganés stepped for the first time in professional soccer.
