C.D. Leganés coach Igor Oca appeared at a press conference on Saturday after the match between Leganés and Real Sporting at the Ontime Butarque Stadium, corresponding to the nineteenth matchday of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, which ended in a 0-1 away victory.
The coach assessed what happened on the pitch as follows:
Match summary: "In a difficult and even match, we had the clearest chances: Duk and Diego in the first half, Lalo and Miguel in the second. These were very clear situations in which we could have capitalized on our offensive play. We tried different formations, trying to give it our all, but we came up against a Sporting side that was relatively stable and knew they would get away with a draw if they didn't concede."
Juan Cruz and Roberto López: “We needed to connect with the two of them behind the center backs to create a little more uncertainty for Enric. We managed to do that at times, but we couldn't keep it up in the final third.”
Merits: "We could have done much more in terms of points, but the reality is what it is. We have that urgency to win, to take that step forward that we tried to take in the second half. We could have been better in terms of points, but that's not good enough for us. We have no choice but to keep working. The team has shown that desire to move up, we've had more chances than our opponents in every game, but we've fallen short and we have to keep working. There's no other option."
Lack of accuracy: "The players' disappointment is clear. We're lacking in the final third, we've taken a step forward in terms of energy and possession. But we're lacking that. I'd like to thank the fans. The fact that we've created so many chances is thanks to their support. We have to be strong, the players, the coaching staff, and the fans. I know it's a complicated, critical situation because we were made for something else, but what matters is the present."
Lack of goals: “You talk about not scoring those chances and the mood is difficult. If Lalo scores, the game goes our way, the dynamic changes, and we would be in a better position. The current situation makes the actions that the players control more complicated. Persisting, having that strength and energy, is not a matter of waiting. It's what we all have to do.”
Real objective: "I wouldn't talk about promotion, playoffs, or salvation, because that's still a long way off. We have to focus our energy on the next game. We've performed well, but it hasn't paid off. We've lost the credit we had at the start of the league, so now the objective is the next game and to build on a victory that we have to go for. We'll go into the next game with all our strength, no matter what it takes."
Personal situation: “I'm focused on every action with the first team and I'll continue to do so. We'll see how things go over the next few days. From day one, there has been maximum commitment. We've been able to enjoy a day-to-day routine with the players, who are fully committed to continuing to work hard. Now there are a few days to take a breather, and I'm at the club's disposal.”
