On Thursday, October 9, the Ontime Butarque Stadium hosted the presentation of the international rugby match between Spain and Ireland A, which will be played on November 8 (5:00 PM) at the Pepinero stadium.
The match, which will serve as preparation for the upcoming European Championship, was presented at an event attended by the general manager of C.D. Leganés, Martín Ortega, the mayor of the city, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, and the general manager of the Spanish Rugby Federation, Jesús María Mardaras.
Martín Ortega wanted to begin by thanking "the mayor and the sports councilor, as well as the general director of the Spanish national rugby team. This is a very important day for us, in line with our goal of having our stadium host not only high-level soccer matches, but also other types of sporting and leisure events. We are very proud that the Ontime Butarque Stadium will host this match on November 8th, and it is a small, big step. We are trying to evolve and have a more comfortable stadium and give the residents of Leganés the opportunity to host other types of events."
Jesús María Mardaras thanked the Leganés City Council for hosting us in your city. It is very important that we are all aligned for this international match. We understood that it could be an important partnership, and we hope to eventually make the Ontime Butarque Stadium the permanent home of the Spanish national rugby team. I am convinced that we will fill the stadium and that it will be a great celebration."
Finally, Mayor Miguel Ángel Recuenco stated that they are "happy that this event is being held here. More than 60,000 people use our municipal facilities to practice sports. In Leganés, we love sport and the values it embodies. The Ontime Butarque Stadium is ideal due to its size, and I hope it brings good luck. Being one of the three venues where the Spanish rugby team will play makes us very proud."
